Jewellery supplier and Where to Buy Them

Online shopping is great because you can shop from the comfort of your home, sipping a cup of tea, and browse to your heart's content. Many online jewel suppliers ship next day if you place your order before a specific time. Some of the shops I've ordered from include Fire Mountain Gems and Rings 'n Things, Beadsunlimited, and some eBay shops.

Although I have had great service, I sometimes feel cheated by the shipping charges because I am in England. However, it is usually worth it for the rare items that are made available. There are a few stores that sell silver, but Cookson Precious Metals is my favorite. They have great silver products and don't just sell wire.

You can find jewellery making supplies on eBay. There are many shops that sell jewellery making materials online. Although the prices are often the same as in a shop, there are still options.

The best way to shop is to go to a real shop. I love being able pick up beads and feel the texture. A bead shop has recently opened in my hometown. Another is located about 10 miles from my home and offers jewellery-making classes. Many times, I have dreamed of opening my own small store with coffee stops and magazines.

The Brighton Bead Shop is my favourite shop for jewellery making supplies in England. Being a bead addict, Brighton is my favorite city.

Making silver jewellery

You have two options: either buy your sterling silver findings pre-made, which I highly recommend to a beginner to jewellery making; or, you can make sterling jewellery from sterling wire and sheet.

You will need basic tools for making sterling silver jewellery, as well as sterling sterling silver wire. There are different gauges for sterling silver wire. Sometimes, instead of a gauge number, there is a number like 0.03 inches. If you are like me, and cannot remember what 0.3 means in a gauge, there are wire converters that can be found online.

You will need six inches of sterling silver wire (0.04inches) to make an adjustable ring. A mandrel and a wooden dowel are required. Simply, bend one end of your wire to form a snail shell about 1/4 inch in diameter. Then bend the straight wire slightly just below the snail shell. Wrap the wire around your mandrel/dowel, ensuring that it overlaps slightly. After you have completed this, bend the wire slightly again, and form another snail shape with the other end.
